Hi, I’m Leah. I’m a trained mental health therapist, educator and behavior analyst specializing in children and families. My work integrates trauma informed approaches with a strong focus on neurodiversity. I offer therapy for clients located in New York, Florida, Georgia and online.

Who I help

Over the years I have worked with hundreds of children and families in special education, behavioral and mental health support. I have supported children with neurodivergence ( adhd, autism and sensory sensitivities), mental health (anxiety, depression, emotional and behavioral problems) and trauma (developmental, attachment based and acute work). My work is trauma-informed and neuroscience informed, to support emotional regulation, communication, and social development.

My work emphasizes collaboration with families and educational teams to create individualized, practical supports that help children thrive across environments.

Support for Children & Families

My favorite work is sitting on the floor with my young clients and getting into their world with games, imagination and play! I combine art and play therapy in my sessions. Through drawing, painting, storytelling, and imaginative play, children can process emotions, build coping skills, and work through challenges in a safe and supportive environment. Rather than relying on direct conversation alone, these therapies meet children where they are, using creativity and play as their natural language. Depending on what is needed, I can work individually with children or invite parents and families into the play and art room.

Direct therapy with children

Parent coaching is a collaborative, practical approach that supports you in understanding your child through both a trauma and neurodiversity-affirming lens. Using my experience as a consultant and behavior analyst, together, we focus on setting clear, meaningful goals that align with your child’s strengths and your family’s values. You’ll learn how to use visual supports, and science based strategies to create structure and predictability, making daily routines smoother and more accessible for your child. The goal is to empower you with tools and confidence; so you can support your child’s growth in a way that feels respectful, connected, and sustainable for your whole family.

I also provide SPACE training, is a specialized program for Parents working with anxious children, developed by Eli Liebowitz.

  • I support children through with play therapy and art therapy, with a focus on supporting children’s emotional development and regulation through the lens of child development, as a both an early childhood teacher, pediatric mental health therapist and BCBA and consultant for a number of years. I also do ABA and collaborative family training or parent training sessions.

  • Art therapy is a mental health approach that uses creative expression (drawing, painting, movement, sensory materials, storytelling, etc.) to help children process emotions, build coping skills, and strengthen self-esteem. Children don’t need to be “good at art” — the art is a tool for expression, not performance.

    Play therapy is a form of child therapy where a trained therapist uses play (toys, games, art, stories, pretend play) to help children express feelings, process experiences, and learn coping skills—because play is a child’s natural way of communicating. In the therapy space we allow children to manipulate the toys in all sorts of ways and we accept the way they wish to communicate. I use a combination of child led and directive approaches, depending what is needed.

  • Yes. Parent coaching is a major part of progress. We work together on:

    • behavior support strategies

    • routines and transitions

    • emotional regulation tools

    • reducing power struggles

    • improving communication and cooperation
      Parent support is often what creates the biggest change in daily life.

  • I completely understand. I started in the field when I was already a play therapist and special education teacher, and so that has always framed the way I see and work with children. My sessions are child-directed and parent supported. In my sessions, I sit on the floor with my clients, play games, and have fun with them! I want kids to feel safe, seen, and motivated, and above all, enjoy their learning. I use the practices I have learned in counseling: attunement, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and co-regulation to guide my sessions.

  • Working with women and teens to support body dysmorphia and eating concerns (particularly binge eating/overeating) is a passion of mine as it is a highly complex, misunderstood disorder that can also feel shameful and embarassing to the suffererer. I aim to hold space, compassion and kindness to these parts of us and bring awareness, empathy, and help slow the system down so we can target this part of self in a loving and self respecting way.

    Professionally, I have over 15 years working in the field with parents, teens and young women. I was a moderator for NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association) for many years, and I consulted at BEDA (Binge eating Disorder Association) when it was in existence. I am trained in trauma support in Art therapy, and am in Advanced Somatic Experiencing training.

Experience

My work with children is grounded in a deep commitment to understanding each child as an individual, and is shaped by years of experience across both clinical and educational settings.

I began my career at Strivright in Brooklyn, supporting children with hearing impairments, and later expanded my work internationally as a Special Education teacher in Sydney, Australia. Returning to New York, I joined Gymies, a creative arts-based preschool, and Beis Rivkah, a large Jewish dayschool, where I served as both a teacher and Head Preschool Teacher, integrating developmental and expressive approaches into early childhood education.

I then continued my clinical work with Yeled V’Yalda as an Early Intervention Specialist, while simultaneously pursuing advanced training in Applied Behavior Analysis (BCBA) and mental health licensure. My clinical experience included working as a play therapist at Tikvah at Ohel in Flatbush, and as an art therapist at Children of Promise, supporting children with absent parents, further informing my nuanced, relationship-based approach to supporting children’s emotional and developmental growth.

My foundation in Mental health, education and neurodiversity led to my role as a Clinical Supervisor at Special Edge, where I oversaw and guided special education, ABA, and counseling services across a range of schools throughout Brooklyn and Queens including JIQ, LY Ocean Parkway, Gan Academy and MBYA. As I transition to Florida, I continue to provide consulting, parent training as a private consultant to multiple ABA companies and schools, while continuing my direct practice with children.

About me

I was born and raised in sunny Sydney, Australia. Growing up with parents as Rabbi and Rebbetzin of a large Sydney Jewish community and as the fifth of seven children informed who I was and who I wanted to be: someone who cares for family and deeply cares for the people around me. Surrounded from a young age by helpers, this definitely inspired my passion for supporting children, and families with warmth and care. I currently live in South beach Florida after having escaped from New York (lived there for 15 years!) and enjoy the beach, the bay, and many new social experiences. I enjoy painting, drawing, writing and other creative experiences in my spare time.
