Parent Coaching
What to Expect
Parent collaboration is an important part of the work we do together. Parent sessions provide a supportive space to reflect on your child’s needs, deepen understanding of behaviors, and learn practical ways to support regulation, communication, and emotional development at home. These sessions are collaborative and compassionate, helping parents feel more confident, connected, and supported as their child grows and develops.
❋ Parent support sessions
Parent sessions are private (without the child present). This is separate from the direct therapy family sessions when we may invite the parent into the child’s session.
Depending on the child and family’s needs, we may work together using Coaching strategies for Neurodivergence utilizing visual and science based behavioral and mental health strategies or I may invite you into working together on the Yale created SPACE curriculum (Supporting Parents of Anxious Children). Space focuses on coaching parents to gradually decrease accommodations (like reassurance, avoidance, or modifying routines) that unintentionally maintain anxiety.
❋ Collaborative Energy
Collaboration between parent, child, and coach is a supportive, team-based approach that centers the child’s growth while empowering parents with tools and confidence. The coach partners with parents to understand the child’s unique needs, model strategies, and provide guidance, while also engaging the child in a developmentally appropriate and respectful way. Together, we create shared goals, consistent responses, and open communication, ensuring that everyone is aligned. This collaborative process fosters trust, strengthens relationships, and helps the child build lasting skills across home and everyday environments.
❋ Behavior Support
Parents are guided to use clear expectations, consistent routines, positive reinforcement, and appropriate consequences to increase desired behaviors and reduce challenging ones. These supports often include teaching replacement skills (like communication or coping), using proactive strategies to prevent issues, creating visuals and routines, and responding calmly and consistently when difficulties arise—helping children build independence, emotional regulation, and confidence over time.
❋ A Supportive Space
My sessions prioritizes comfort, safety, and respect - so you can show up as you are and fully engage in the process. We will work together to support your wants, needs and safety as a parent who wants to do the best for their child.
